A 52 years old man named Nicolae Miu was arrested as a major suspect in the case of the homicide of a teenager and stabbing of four other people at a popular summer tubing spot in Wisconsin, Minnesota, on Monday.
The victim has been identified as 17 years old Isaac Schuman of Stillwater, Min. Nicolae faces the charges of first-degree intentional homicide of the teen, four charges of the attempted first-degree homicide of other people, and a charge of felony. The information can be verified in a complaint filed in the Circuit Court of St. Croix County, Wis.
What went down?
The complaint describes the situation as a bloody scene in which Nicolae waved a knife at a group after a dispute on the sides of apple river, a tributary of the St. Croix river.
The place is a hotspot for summer activities and is frequently visited by campers and tubers. A video of the entire situation is also retrieved in which it is visible that the accused is an older male with grey hair and weighs around 250 pounds.
In the video, he runs toward victims with a knife in his hand even after they tell him to go away.
The complaint also suggests that Nicolae was bothering the mentioned group of teenagers on their tubes; they also asked for help from other people floating down the river nearby. Upon calling for help, another group came between Nicolae and the teenagers. Nicolae even slapped one of the ladies from the other group who tried to confront him; in return, he was attacked by a man from the other group and fell into the river.
Nicolae claims self-defense:
The police department has not released the victim’s identities, one teenager was pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital, and others are said to be in stable condition.
Upon interrogation, Nicolae pleaded that he was acting in self-defense and initially approached the teenagers because he was trying to find his phone and thought one of them might have taken it.
