  • He launched his novel named The Satanic Verses in which he discredited Islam and Prophet Muhammad in 1988. Soon, Salman was criticized all over the world for this. Iran’s spiritual leader Ayatollah Khomeini issued a fatwa calling for his assassination to insult the prophet. In 1991, a Japanese translator named Hitoshi Igarashi was stabbed to death, while Salman escaped death. An Italian translator named Ettore Capriolo was also injured in a stabbing attempt that same year. Norwegian publisher William Nygaard was shot three times but survived in 1993. This book is banned in almost every country in the world. On BBC4, Salman was asked to respond to the threats, he then said,
