Novak Djokovic in Australia: Timeline of events

Djokovic did not comment on the substance of his case, and his family refused to answer specific questions about his activities on Monday when his brother Djordje told a news conference in Serbia that “truth and justice had come to light” when Novak Djokovic was released from custody with renewed visa.

Djokovic’s agent and spokesman did not respond immediately to a request for comment on Tuesday.

However, confusion about the result of Djokovic’s test only renewed questions about his actions on the day of the test and the week that followed.

If Djokovic had a positive test on December 16, then his actions in the following days – when he was to be isolated – could endanger the health and safety of dozens of people. On the day of his test and the two that followed, such as Djokovic’s own social media posts and current accounts show that he repeatedly appears at public events without a mask and near children and strangers, even though he scored a positive test.

To obtain a visa to enter Australia, Djokovic and his lawyers submitted documents stating that he had tested positive for the coronavirus on December 16. He reported this positive result when he was questioned by Australian Border officials after arriving in Melbourne.

Djokovic brought the result of the test on December 16 “without challenge”, the Australians said in a court filing. The transcript of his interview, which was recorded, contained the following exchange:

INTERVIEWER: Thank you. Have you ever had COVID?

DJOKOVIC: Yes.

INTERVIEWER: So when?

DJOKOVIC: I had COVID twice, I had COVID in June 2020, and I had COVID recently in – I tested positive – PCR – on December 16, 2021.

INTERVIEWER: Thank you. Excuse me, what was the date? December 16?

DJOKOVIC: December 16, 2021, I also have documents that confirm that if you want, I can provide – as well as –

INTERVIEWER: Thank you. I’ll just make a photocopy of those documents –

The administration also includes the timing of the test, which was collected around December 16 at 1 p.m., and the positive result returned seven hours later.
