Is Mayah Zamora Fine Now? What Happened To Mayah Zamora? | ICIN

Mayah Zamora, 10, is finally back at her home in Uvalde after being treated for 66 days after surviving a shooting there.

She was admitted to University Hospital in San Antonio in critical condition and remained there for over two months. On May 24, a gunman killed 19 students and two teachers at Zamora Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.

Mayah has had multiple operations and treatments since that terrible day. Mayah’s family set up a GoFundMe to help with the costs of her recovery, and they stated that she had a “long road to recovery” ahead of her, including several hospitalizations and therapy for mental health and trauma.

Statement by Mayah Zamora’s brother

Mayah Zamora’s brother Ruben said earlier this summer that his sister had begun physical therapy, claiming that Mayah is making progress “She is strong, determined, stubborn, and hard-headed, and she wants to leave the hospital desperately. She has already blown the minds of the medical staff and is determined to keep going.”

University Hospital personnel gave Mayah the best send-off possible over the weekend. She wanted to show her appreciation for their efforts, so she sent them flowers—get a box of tissues ready.

The hospital has released Mayah, the last injured Uvalde survivor. On Twitter, the facility announced that Mayah Zamora, age 10, had been released as the last patient related to the Uvalde shooting. “Thank you to @HEB, she was able to give out roses and go in style. All of us here at the office are rooting for her and can’t wait to see what she does in the future.”

Uvalde teacher Arnulfo Reyes was released from the hospital earlier this month after he was shot while trying to protect his children from a mass shooter who killed all of them. Reyes expressed his disgust with the Uvalde Police Department for their lack of response to the massacre at Robb Elementary.

Students who were able to escape the massacre have spoken about their harrowing experiences; some described feigning dead while the gunman was still at large, while others described seeing their classmates and professors murdered in front of them. In addition, many GoFundMe accounts have been established to provide financial support for survivors’ physical and emotional health needs.
